In April we had a family holiday to Mallorca. Mum rented a villa and we flew out there on a British Airways aeroplane. Mum tells me the flights aren’t what they used to be in ‘the good old days’. Apparently in the past you would get a proper meal. We got a bottle of water and some biscuits. They were nice biscuits, but it wasn’t a full meal.

When we got to Mallorca everybody had to go through a new immigration routine where they had their fingerprints taken. Teddy bears don’t have fingerprints. Well, if you look closely, I don’t have fingers. So I decided to hide in dad’s camera bag until we were through. I thought I had been found, because the automatic machine told dad he had to go for a manual check. It turns out he just couldn’t follow directions and had left his glasses on when the machine took a photo. Well, he did point out that if he took his glasses off he wouldn’t even be able to see the machine he was supposed to look at.
Anyway, safely through customs I peeked out to find that we were in a bus going to our car collection point. Dad had hired two cars. When I asked why, he said it was partly for convenience, but mainly because it was cheaper than one big one that would seat six people and hold all their luggage. I note that he wasn’t going to give me a seat.
An hour later and we were at our villa. It was called Villa Oms and it was in a place called Alcudia. This was a five-minute walk from the beach, and a two minute walk from a restaurant which served excellent food. It had its own swimming pool, a pool table and a table tennis table. But to my disappointment it didn’t have a Stuart.

After a couple of lazy days at the villa, everybody else decided to go for a look around the old town of Alcudia with its city walls. I didn’t go. I decided to stay and sit by the pool. However, I had not realised that Miles had sneaked into Fiona’s luggage and had been living in her bedroom. Suddenly I wasn’t the only bear. I do like Miles, but – how can I put it – he is very clingy. Anyway – my expected time alone was instead spent with him constantly trying to hold my paw. I didn’t want to upset him.

A few days later I did go out. Mum, dad and aunty Flo took me on a trip to a country park. We got out of the car and then seemed to walk forever before we got to the entrance to the park. We did get to see lots of birds. In fact, we went into a little shed where we could put the side up and we were very close to some birds playing in the water. Dad said we were in a hide, but I didn’t think we were hiding. And there was certainly nobody seeking. And then we had to walk back to the car. Well, obviously I didn’t walk – I got a lift in Dad’s bag. It would have taken far too long for me to walk with my little legs.

And then I got to go on another trip out to an aquarium. This was a car ride back to just next to the airport we had arrived at. I wanted to know why we didn’t go there when we were at the airport the previous week. Dad didn’t think my suggestion was very sensible. I don’t know why. We could have called in on the way to the villa. At the aquarium we saw fish, and turtles, and frogs. And to my amazement I even found mum was one of the exhibits. I didn’t realise she had a part time job as a sea creature.

And then another few days lazing around, and it was time to come home. Dad managed to negotiate the security on the way to the plane, even remembering to take his glasses off. I hid in his bag because I didn’t want to be spotted and the guards think I was a Spanish bear and have to stay there for the rest of my life.
And so a few hours later we were home. It was nice to be back.
