Bury St Edmunds

On 28th March I heard mum and dad talking about driving with Matthew and Hannah to a place called “Bury St Edmunds”. This is where I believe Matthew and Hannah are going to get married in May. I’m not 100% sure about that, since my invitation to their wedding has not yet arrived. I’m sure it is just lost in the post.

Anyway, having heard them talk about it and seeing their bags ready to be packed into the car, what was I supposed to do but hide away in dad’s bag?  I was there when he loaded it into the car boot. Why is it called a boot? The car doesn’t have feet to put in it.

We set off with Matthew and Hannah in the car. I was horrified when dad woke me up getting the bag out of the car to find that mum and dad had lost Matthew and Hannah on the way. I was very worried until I happened to hear mum say something about leaving them at a service station with Hannah’s parents. I should have known mum and dad wouldn’t forget them somewhere.

To my delight, dad took the bag I which was my hiding place into a hotel room at the Ravenwood Hall hotel. I have to say it was the smallest hotel room I have ever seen. However, it was fully functional. And you know what hotel rooms mean? Biscuits. That was when mum and dad found me – they heard the crunching.

The next morning everyone went to look at the place where Matthew and Hannah are going to get married. The wedding is in an old barn, and the family are staying in the farmhouse on the night of the wedding. I got to lie on one of the beds for a rest.

Then it was in to Bury St Edmunds for a meal.

One more night in the hotel (with more biscuits) and then mum and dad packed up to go home. However, when we got into the car dad didn’t drive home. Instead, he drove to somewhere called “Grime’s Graves” which is a prehistoric flint mine. They took me for a walk around the site, which looked like a load of dimples on the surface of the land, and then we went down into a mine. There was some sort of magic where it appeared people were still mining. There were a number of small tunnels, and mum and dad told me that children used to work in these mines. Mind you, they didn’t say that bears used to.  I wasn’t fond of the dark, and I tried to climb out but got stuck up the wall and mum had to rescue me.

After the mines we went to another place, called Weeting Castle. This was an old ruin, and wasn’t really a castle, but a Manor House. I tried climbing the walls here as well, and I got stuck. This time dad had to rescue me.

And then it was time to go home
