3rd May – 8th May 2025
We had only just got back from our cruise when I saw that mum had packed a bag, so I snuck in and found myself with her on a golf trip to Cornwall. Mum and her 3 friends (Julie, Teresa and Judith) were staying at a house called “Porthilly” in St Merryn near Padstow. Teresa had won the 5-night stay at the house in a competition, so it would have been rude not to join them all.

Mum didn’t take me out to the golf as they were playing in serious competitions, and she thought I might misbehave (which of course I never do!). She said they had played the Yelverton and Tavistock Ladies opens but hadn’t done very well apart from a nearest the pin prize.
St Mawes Castle
On the Wednesday just Mum and I went off to Falmouth to visit some castles so she could make use of her English Heritage membership. We started at St Mawes Castle. It was very interesting and we got a special members-only trip around the WWII fortifications. I had to hide in her handbag, because I’m not a member – they don’t allow bears! The castle itself was built by King Henry VIII, which must have been a lot of work for one man! After the visit I had an ice cream (the best bit of that visit).

Pendennis Castle
After St Mawes we went across the river on a ferry to Pendennis Castle, also built by Henry! I was fascinated by the cannons, and tried to take a cannon ball home but couldn’t pick it up. After looking round the castle we had a lovely cream tea, not sure if mum put the cream and jam on correctly for Cornwall.

Stonehenge
On the trip home we made a stop at Stonehenge. Just a pile of rocks as far as I could tell but there were lots of visitors who found them very interesting. I did get a ride on a shuttle bus, so it was nearly like being on a cruise.
